Overview
This 5 days safari in Rwanda offers visitors the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to track the endangered mountain gorillas, dive in the history of Rwanda and witness the post-traumatic growth that Rwanda is experiencing today. After the gorilla experience, the safari will be crowned with wildlife game drives, boat safari on Lake Ihema and birding in Akagera National Park.
Itinerary
Arrival at Kigali International Airport. after greetings, transfer to your hotel.
After morning breakfast, Kigali city tour. Visit to Kigali Genocide Memorial. The Kigali Genocide Memorial exists as a permanent memorial to those who feel victim to the genocide in 1994. You will start the city tour past the post office and Prisoner’s house to the Richard Kandt’s museum where the historic city tour will begin.
From Kandts House you’ll then proceed to Former Radio RTLM (Hate radio) and then proceed towards Kigali University Central Hospital (CHUK). After lunch, you will be driven to the Volcanoes National Park (3hrs drive)
Morning breakfast. Short drive to park offices. Briefing about Gorillas at 07:00 am. After the briefing, you’ll start your gorilla trekking.
Volcanoes National Park protects the steep slopes of this magnificent mountain range – home of the rare mountain gorilla. You will enjoy as they go about their daily life: feeding, playing, resting, grooming and raising their young ones. Lunch at the Lodge.
In the afternoon you visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village that offers visitors the opportunity to learn about Rwanda’s culture, traditions and history. Dinner and overnight in Musanze.
After morning breakfast, drive back to Kigali (3hrs drive) and be transferred to Akagera National Park. From Kigali, the journey to Akagera national park takes about 2.5 hours depending on the stopovers along the way. At arrival, game drive and check in at your accommodation. In the afternoon, boat ride on Lake Ihema, expect to view various aquatic wildlife species like hippos and crocodiles and many species of birds. Dinner and overnight.
Have an early breakfast and drive deeper towards the north of the park for another game drive. This area has the biggest concentration of wildlife in Akagera so expect to see so many animals and beautiful scenery! After four to six hours, return to the lodge for breakfast and relax till lunch. Check out by 2.30pm and leave for Kigali. Drop off at either a hotel or airport for departure flight.
