Overview
These 3 days Eastern lowland gorillas treks start and end at the Rusizi Rwanda-DRC border. Kahuzi Biega National Park is home to a species of lowland gorillas that are different from the mountainous ones found in Virunga National Park. Both lowland and mountain gorillas are endangered.
The park is named after two dormant volcanoes, Mount Kahuzi and Mount Biega which are part of Mitumba mountains chain. The park is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Inscribed in 1980 for its unique biodiversity of rain-forest habitat and its eastern lowland gorillas.
